We are sailing
We left Cyprus at 3pm for Mersin,Turkey. Started out nice flat seas some wind on the nose but by 10pm heavy seas and winds of 27 knots. Marco took my watch and helmed for the next 6 hours the only way we could get speed to point into the wind and we were doing 6.5-7 knots and the toe rails were in the water but we sailed and beat all the big fancy boats by 2 hours Marco was in seventh heaven.He...

As most of you know Marco is italian so english is not his first language .Sometimes what he says is a delight yesterday was one of those days. He was checking the bilge pump in the bilge under the floor boards and discovered the bolts holding the keel on were rusted much mumbling and a few choice italian words he removered the rust and painted them the whole time complaining about the French...

we are soooooo ready
We went for a shake down sail today and as normal not all things were in a secure place. The boat heels in 10 knots so a few things went flying. Marco just looked at me and said you will be working tonight and so I am. everything is now safe and sound. We leave on Monday and will sail for a few weeks before joining the rally. My blisters should be healed by then.

broke
Well we are getting there the empty purse more things can go wrong when under pressure. The genoa has sun damage on the forward edge so needs repair. 500 euro part breaks after only one use. And so it goes the endless black hole. But we will be leaving on monday to sail and then join the rally. Good thing I ordered 3 cases of wine.

change in plans
I have changed my plans for this years sailing. I had the chance to join the EMYR which is a yacht rally. Go to  www.emyr.org to see the countries we will visit. It is well organized and has a great reputation. So we have the boat on the hard and working to get the boat in shape well I should say Marco is working hard. So we will be off in 2 weeks to join the rally. I hope to keep the blog going...

being a slob
I am spending my last week before Marco arrives trying to get the boat in shape but am failing. I seem to get one area neat and then there is a mess in another area. Maybe I should just enjoy my slobness for this last week. I always manage to get it done the last day but this year I seem to have more stuff. Oh well you can’t change a tiger’s stripes.

Turkey
we arrived on the 15th and the temp was 115 degrees. I hired an agent to do the paper work for the boat and ourselves vises etc. It was worth the price because of the heat the agent was able to do it in 3 hours it would of taken us a full day. The turks are very friendly and the food is very good. The marine is nice and the toilets are spotless. I can’t download pictures for some reason ....

to many islands
islands island islands  so many I have lost count  I think we have seen 25. I have a map marked were we have been so I can remember. We had a good time in Greece and good sailing we only had the meltemi for 3 days. The greeks are very friendly. The harbors were free most of the time so it has been cheap compared to Italy.

SEA RAGE
As you can tell from the photo the problem. A charter boat with 6 fat german men in speedos tried to dock stern first in a space between me and an other boat side to. Then worked at it for 40 minutes with their anchor at a bad angle and a anchored boat infront of them and then me. their boat was on my stern and they were pushing on my pushpit Marco told them not to touch the boat he would push...

Patmos
We came in on Friday 20th. Its a lovely island and the bay is very nice. The winds call the meltemi came in and our anchor dragged so Marco set a second anchor which held during the nite but this morning decided toset a third anchor because it was really blowing. We have now the three anchors and everything seems fine. It is really howling out gusts of about 35 knots. We will stay until Monday...

Marco's mound of breadcrumbs
the other nite at dinner I noticed little mounds of bread around Marco’s plate. What is that in my mother’s voice. I have been doing this since I was a child. Your mother  must have gone crazy. She lost her voice. Well she couldn’t change him who am I to try. But it brings the mother in me out.

Who's the clown in the cockpit?
well today was a 3 ring circus in the bay. The wind had picked up so we decided to stay put because where we were headed was between two islands and it would of become a funnel with winds 30 kn. A few boats left but came back in an hour then 10 charter boats came in. There was mayhem up anchor pulling other anchors up or getting catch on the bottom… lines in propellors a 3 ring circus in a...

what not to ask the Brits ?
You can ask the brits a lot of questions  weather forecast,hi tide, were to get a cheap part and were to stay free but NEVER ask were to eat. Marco and I found out the hard way 2 days in the head. Why did we think they know about food    the beans on toast and fry up (don’t ask) Good food and the brits are strangers.

It's Greek to me
Well we are enjoying Greece. The islands are great little coves to anchor in for lunch and a swim except when the cruise ship needs to show the clients a cute bay so we took pictures of each other. The language is foreign but everyone speaks a little english so no problems. Lots of boats .
